HR Supervisor | Fiscal Manager

Lisa Quinn

I was part of the accounting club while attending Cal State SB. While attending college Iworked part-time for Paine Weber, Hemet Glass and then Bill Moore Chevron as thebookkeeper. While I was attending MSJC I saw an advertisement in the Dollar Saver,long-time residents of Hemet will recognize this publication, for the Hemet Jr Woman’sClub. I joined at the age of nineteen and have been involved in community service ever since. From being youth leaders for 7th graders at our church to being president of the Jr.Woman’s club, Dartmouth Band Booster, and HHS Grad night to treasurer of Valley Restart Shelter Board.

I am a lifelong resident of Hemet. I attended Hemet Elementary School and graduated from Hemet High School, Go Bulldogs! Back in High School is when I started my journey of community service. I was part of the FBLA, Future Business Leaders of America, in high school and found my passion for accounting. I studied accounting for three years in high school. I started college at MSJC and then transferred to California State University, San Bernardino, earning my bachelor in business administration, emphasis on Public Accounting.

Giving back to my community feeds my soul. Many memories of fundraising events from dressing up as the Easter Bunny in the mall,

Working concessions at the Ramona Bowl, organizing golf tournaments to purchase band equipment, painting sets for grad night, helping children were always at the center of volunteering.

I was married in 1984, (same guy that I went to high school senior prom), and I became a business owner with my husband. We ran Quinn’s Automotive side by side from 1988 to 2022. We still found time to volunteer and to support our community. We hired interns from HHS automotive program and seldom said no to students seeking donations to their sports team or club. We were very involved in every one of our son’s schools. In 2010, after our son graduated from college, I was looking to expand my knowledge and find another opportunity to be of service. I started working part-time as an advertising representative. During the time of working as an ad rep, my boss, owner of the Easy Ad and former president of the Valley Restart Shelter approached me to attend a board meeting.

I was already familiar with Valley Restart Shelter. Our church was part of the original churches that helped serve dinner meals to the homeless community back in 1989. I remember serving dinner in the early years of VRS and later with different organizations throughout the years, such as our church, son’s boy scout troop and the woman’s club. Every time I visited VRS I remembered going to the YMCA pool as a child. We called it the plunge. I remember walking over from our house on Girard to the pool. I felt like I was coming home when I attended that first meeting. I became the treasurer on the board after a couple of years. I served on the board for many years as the treasurer. During that time the former Executive Director asked me to become part of the VRS employee team. I started a couple of days a week as the fiscal clerk. My duties grew the longer I worked for the shelter. I became the fulltime HR Supervisor/Fiscal manager and oversaw the grant billing.

During all this time seeing the children’s faces turn from scared to secure because they have a safe place to call home filled my heart with joy. Seeing the joy on the parents’ faces when they get a job or find housing is so heartwarming. We see so many success stories and many former residents come back to visit. I am celebrating 10 years of being part of the VRS team. I have learned so much about non-profit accounting and grants along the way. I have seen our small town become a large city over the years. Though much has changed, one thing that has remained the same is the commitment from volunteers and community to help its community help the less fortunate. VRS has had tough years, this being one of the hardest, but I trust that Valley Restart will get through it with the support of the community.
